Here is an example of some hints I found using a google search with the keyword "how to write a scientific paper".

Example theses
This student worked on his project for 3 years.
This student worked on her project for 1 semester.

General Guidelines:
A good thesis is one that is a pleasure to read.
All figures need captions. They must be discussed in the text, in the order they appear in the thesis. Discuss figure 1 before figure 2, etc.
All tables need a title and caption. Numbers should have appropriate precision.
All measurements need to have error bars, or discussion of errors.
All equations of substance need numbers, and need to be discussed in the text. Equations are simple declarative sentences and need punctuation.
All material from elsewhere must be referenced properly.
